Cannelle Film Festival History

Cannelle, French for “cinnamon”, is also a portmanteau of Cannes (site of the famous Cannes Film Festival) and “bagatelle” (a trifle or bauble). It seemed a suitable name for the sort of film festival I envisioned: spicy, autumnal, intimate and breezy. The festival is meant to give friends a platform to share their creativity and perspective with each other through film, an increasingly accessible and comprehensive medium.

I have a few reasons for creating this festival, a few goals that I would like it to satisfy.

  • I wanted a design project, some reason and theme for creating posters, pamphlets and other swag.
  • I hope to provide a creative outlet for folks I know who might otherwise not have the time or motivation to share their artistic bits with others.
  • I would like to spend an evening with friends, sharing short films with each other and learning about them through their art.

That’s what the Cannelle Film Festival is truly about. Film, food, drink, discussion, humor, happiness… all of these things are better when shared among friends.
